James Russell Cant - PHOTOGRAPHY

Image
James Russell Cant, a Photographer, who came to talk about his work at my College on 26/06/2013. He spoke about the areas that  he explore within his work: Advertising  Design Library Editorial Editorial Projects Personal works Fine Art Advertising - A project like advertising, is when James Cant gets more money, up to £2000 per day. The project takes a really long time, its all about collaboration and they have to spend time talking about colors, objects to use, composition, everything needs to be well thought. It is a stressful project, but James tries to make the atmosphere less "heavier" while hes taking the pictures, he jokes and shouts around so even the models feel more comfortable with the situation. Hes advertising pictures, look very natural, relaxing moments, loads of day light, flash on, models have makeup on, but is very settled people cant tell, that is actually there. James, while photographing tries to motivate the models, speaks to them, jokes a...

Going around College to collect: RECYCLED MATERIALS

Image
This morning, before we went around the college collect any recycled materials, i had to measure the pond space to know the water measurements, how big it is and photograph the space around it. I noted down all the measurements of the pond: The  outside measurement of the pond is 3.25 metres. Inside the pond is measured at 2.23 metres and half. The water depth measures at 44 cm.

HEALTH & SAFETY - in Public Art

Image
I had a lesson on Health and safety, that i need to be aware when to make any public art piece of work, to not put in danger the piece itself or anyone. Where is it going to be? Size of the Public art piece Materials used shape, no pointy sides, to not hurt anyone. No electricity near water, so no lights. Sustainability Strengths of the materials used, depending where the piece is exposed if outside, need to think about good and bad weather. Installation process: how will i attache it to the proposed site? will i need a extra help? an armature?  Size and strength Public lability insurance: if the piece breaks and hurts anyone. Using any metal, when its sun, if its outside it will reflect back out and it can hurt the eyes, make then a place less comfortable.     When to make a art Public piece, i need to think too, about what i am going to produce to not offend anyone, or hurt anyone, make the place where i am planning look good, people appreciate i...

Focusing on two Key Words from the mind map.To develop fountain ideas

Image
From the mind map i have done about the art department, i had to select two words that i like best to describe the Visual Art department. So from all of the different words i picked "Creative and Dynamic" to express in a better way the art department. They both show different ways of express art one in imaginative way and the other to by dynamic, use of colours, shapes, forms to produce a piece of art work that no one has ever done before. Creative, refers to the phenomenon whereby something new is created which has some kind of subjective value(such as an idea, work, painting or musical composition, a solution, an invention). It is also the qualitative impetus behind any given act of creation, and it is generally perceived to be associated with intelligence and cognition. Dynamism, is the way somebody presents their work, using different ideas on their forms, shape, colours  which will bring something very unusual together, which will stand out too! Inspirations: ...

My Year 1 Exhibition - Review

Image
Year 1 work is all done now, 9 units are now complete. All the sketchbooks are finished and all the work of every single of those 9 units, are mounted on mount boards to be marked by the teachers. The units, i've done so far are, photography, printmaking, computers in art, painting, visual recording, textiles, mix media, art history, sculpture. For each of the units, i have mounted different mount boards, with experiments along the unit, final pieces, all of the best work was mounted. It felt so good, seeing all the work i have completed in year 1 done, everything sorted, all up on boards to get marked. I had only two boards to put some mount boards, my work is normally on A1 folders, like i show it there on the top. I have three different folders, where one i save all my photography, computers in art and any other clean work, second folder is for painting, any drawing, and printmaking, then the last folder was for textiles and on the other part all the textiles ...

Sculpture trail 2

Image
The first task i had to do, to open the new brief "Public art" was to go into Cambridge City Centre and go around, take pictures of Public Art Sculptures. The first public art sculpture i took a picture of, was one called "Between the Lines 2007" by Peter Randall-Page. Carved from granite glacial boulder. The sculpture is just situated at Fisher Square, off Corn Exchange Street. Anew piece of public Art sited adjacent to the Grand Arcade. In 2009, Peter Randall- Page had a major retrospective exhibition at the yorkshire Sculpture Park whose website carries information about his work. The Public Art Sculpture that i went to, was "Talos 1950" by Michael Ayrton. The public piece is Bronze. And its situated in Guildhall Street. Talos is the legendary guardian of Minoan Crete. He was the giant man of Bronze who protected Europa in Crete. By depicting him without arms, Michael Ayrton portrays the anger and bewilderment felt by many of the post-war gen...

Definition of Public Art - Reviewed by the class

Image
Public Art is art open to the general public in an open area. It is free to view and can be seen by anyone. Sited or staged in the physical public domain intentional planning for a specific purpose or commissioning. It has to be made out of a sustainable and weatherproof media so that it will last. Once the piece has been put up and finished it is therefore owned by the public.

The definition of Public Art

Public art   refers to works of art in any media that have been first thought and  planned then executed with the specific intention of being sited or staged in the specific   public area, usually outside and accessible so everyone can see it. Public art is especially significant within the art world, amongst curators, commissioning bodies and practitioners of public art, to whom it signifies a particular working practice, often with implications of site specificity, community involvement and collaboration. The term is sometimes also applied to include any art which is exhibited in a public space including publicly accessible buildings. In recent years, public art has increasingly begun to expand in scope and application, both into other wider and challenging areas of artform, and also across a much broader range of what might be called our 'public realm'. Such cultural interventions have often been realised in response to cre...

A2 and Diploma Exhibition Review

Image
Today, i went to see the exhibition from the A2 and Diploma work at Long Road. The year 13 work, is completely different from the year 12 work, the work from the year 13 look much professional than year 12, it is understandable, because year 13 had the whole year 1 and 2 to learn different techniques, along those 2 years. The year 13's work look much detailed as well, it seems like they have became much responsible in year 2, their work shows a different understanding and exploration, they used artist researches better, than us year 1. I mean by this, that every single research some students did, they used the information really well on their final pieces, not just small pieces like stitch or collages, ideas from it, but the way other artist composed their work, what they used for it, how they made the work, what techniques used, and year 13 work follows much more their research, than year 12. All of the different students work, was really pleasing to see it, loads of differ...
